Search for missing boater near Bermagui on NSW South Coast suspended

The search for a missing man in the waters off the coastal town of Bermagui, NSW has been suspended.

Emergency crews had commenced their search efforts on Tuesday afternoon when a boat was found washed ashore at Haywards Beach.

On Wednesday afternoon the search was suspended after wind and weather conditions had become too dangerous to continue.

On Thursday morning the search resumed, but was formally suspended hours later, at 1pm.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Glenn Sullivan said “vessels conducted multiple parallel line searches from Camel Rock south to Bermagui Harbour”.

“Visibility and conditions were reasonably good for our volunteer crews who responded swiftly after being requested by Marine Area Command to assist the search,” he said.

Despite their efforts, the missing 60-year-old man from Victoria was not located.

“Our volunteers from the Narooma and Bermagui units have displayed total commitment on the water looking for any signs of a missing person,” he said.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
